About Us

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 39 academic staff, plus a number of Teaching Assistants.

About 50 postgraduates are registered for research degrees.

Research is focused on applied mathematics in the broadest sense, with an emphasis on nonlinear systems and solution of problems with industrial relevance.

Funding comes from several sources, including the EPSRC, Graduate Teaching Assistantships, University Awards, Carnegie Trust, ORS Awards, Scottish Enterprise, UK industry and the EU.

Postgraduate students are encouraged to attend seminars within the Department and also to attend national and international conferences.

Collaborative links have been developed with researchers in many institutions throughout the world, including other universities, research establishments and industry.
