Alumni

As part of the development of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Strathclyde, we are embarking on a program to improve our connections with our former undergraduates and postgraduates.

As you may be aware, the two Department of Mathematics and the Department of Statistics and Modelling Science merged in 2009 to form the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. This has provided us with fresh impetus to renew and strengthen our contact with you.

Both departments have steadily grown in size and strength over recent years and performed very well in the 2008 UK Research Assessment Exercise; we are now the largest applied mathematics department in Scotland.

We hope that this can help us in our desire to inspire the next generation of young people to choose mathematics or statistics as a degree, and as a career, as well as providing an opportunity for us to work together on knowledge exchange activities which could be beneficial to your organisation and to Strathclyde.

We are planning a series of events centred on these activities and also a regular newsletter to keep you abreast of the activities of our staff and students.
