Financial Support

Information regarding Scholarships available to students applying to Strathclyde (external link) is supplied by the University International and Graduate Office.

Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)

The most usual source of financial support for British postgraduate students is the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, which may provide studentships through the Doctoral Training Account (DTA) covering maintenance and tuition fees.

EU Nationals who have been resident in the UK for the last three years are also eligible for these awards. Applications are made through the University.

Scottish Overseas Research Student Award Scheme (SORSAS)

These are provided by the Scottish Government and may be available as a contribution towards tuition fees, but not maintenance, for research students from non-EU countries.

Since these do not include maintenance the shortfall can be covered by applying for a University Award. Applications are made through the University.

University Postgraduate Studentships

A limited number of studentships is provided by the University. These awards are highly competitive and application should be made to the Postgraduate Secretary.

Carnegie Trust Scholarships

Some studentships are available for Scottish students through the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland. These are highly competitive.

Nominations are made by the Head of Department.

Undergraduate Tutoring

Postgraduate research students are encouraged to undertake paid undergraduate tutoring, thereby supplementing their grants.
