Profile: Judit Quintans Carou

Judit Quintans Carou

Judit graduated with a PhD in Mathematics in June 2007. Her thesis was titled "Flow of a nematic liquid crystal" and concerned the thin-film flow of a liquid crystal over a moving substrate. Judit's studies were funded by the University through a Graduate Teaching Assistantship.

How did you first hear of the University of Strathclyde?:

From one of my lecturers at Southampton University, where I was an Erasmus exchange student.

What attracted you to apply to the Department of Mathematics?:

That the Department is oriented, in particular, to applied mathematics.

What were your first impressions of Glasgow, the University and the Department?:

I thought Glasgow was a big, busy city full of students and with plenty of opportunities to meet new people. I liked that the University lies within the city, two minutes away from the shops, banks etc. What I most liked about the Department was the friendly people!

What has been your favourite part of your time in the Department?:

I like the easy going, helpful and friendly relationships between everyone.

Do you have any other comments about the Department, the University, Glasgow or Scotland?:

I think the Department is a unique one full of friendly people. Scotland is a great place to get out for walks in the hills and to check those new waterproofs! Overall, I truly enjoyed my time in Glasgow and I would encourage anyone to come and study here!
