BA Joint Degees with Mathematics and Statistics

Both the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (ASS) and the Strathclyde Business School (SBS) offer Mathematics as a second principal subject in Joint Honours Degrees.

Such degrees are potentially very exciting and useful in today's era of high technology.

They allow the student to combine the rigour and exactness of Mathematics with the freedom and application of the more vocational subjects.

Within a joint degree programme the students will spend an equal amount of time studying the two subjects and there is always the possibility of transferring into a single honours degree if desired.

While the BSc degrees are weighted more heavily towards Mathematics and Statistics the BA degrees are weighted more towards the Business or Arts subjects.

Thus students on a BA degree can expect to spend between one half and two thirds of their time studying their principal subject but only between one-third and one half of their time on Mathematics and Statistics.

Currently the following joint honours programmes are offered:

  • BA in Accounting, Mathematics and Statistics (SBS)
  • BA in Economics, Mathematics and Statistics (SBS)
  • BA in Finance, Mathematics and Statistics (SBS)
  • BA in Management Science, Mathematics and Statistics (SBS)
  • BA in Geography and Mathematics (ASS)
  • BA in Modern Languages and Mathematics (ASS)
  • BA in Psychology and Mathematics (ASS)
  • BA in Politics and Mathematics (pass degree only) (ASS)

The choice of BA as opposed to BSc will depend on a student's strength in Mathematics relative to the Arts or Business subjects. The framework of the degrees are similar to that described in the previous pages.
