Introduction to Plane Geometry

In order to use algebra and calculus to discuss geometric properties of lines and curves we need a co-ordinate system.

You should be familiar with the idea of having an origin in a plane through which are drawn two perpendicular axes (x and y) dividing the plane into four quadrants.

A point on the plane corresponds to a pair (x, y) of numbers, known as its co-ordinates.
