48207 - Modelling Operations Using Simulation

This class is a possible elective for students on Maths-based degrees, as it does not conflict with compulsory Mathematics/STAMS classes.

Details are given in good faith, but this class and its code or timetable may be subject to change or cancellation.

This class is an additional elective available in second/third year.

Core Details

Semester 2
Credits 15

Description

The class introduces a selection of areas of Operations Management (OM) important in manufacturing and service industries and to model service and manufacturing operations using visual interactive simulation techniques so that the effectiveness and efficiency of process design and management can be measured and decisions about process operation can be supported.

State-of-the-art discrete event simulation software (Simul8) will be used to build models of moderate complexity.

Assessment

Two elements of assessment - a group course work (40%) and a final exam (60%).

Students must pass both the course work and the Exam.

Timetable
