This class is a possible elective for students on Maths-based degrees, as it does not conflict with compulsory Mathematics/STAMS classes.

This class is an additional elective available in second/third year. In some cases timetabling prevents Level 1 classes being taken in Year 1.

Description

This class gives students some general background and insight into the legal, financial and human aspects of a commercial business.

The context in which the business may operate will be examined and the advantages and disadvantages of partnerships, limited liability companies, etc… will be considered.

The main financial documents and indicators for businesses will be introduced.

Concepts of motivation and human aspects of industry are presented.

The position of employees is discussed with respect to employment law (unfair dismissal and disciplinary procedures).

This class is not available to students taking Mathematics, Statistics and a Business Subject.
